Teoria : Explicacion y Ejemplos Ingles Present Continuous With Future Meaning

It’s common to use the Present Continuous with future meaning. When we want to talk about future plans or arrangements, we often use the Present Continuous. For example:

I’m meeting John at the station at six o’clock tonight.

This means that the arrangement is already made – I have already decided to meet John. It isn’t just a possibility.

We’re leaving for New York at eight o’clock on Monday morning.

This means that the arrangements have been made – we have already decided to go to New York. It isn’t just a possibility.

When we want to talk about the future, we can also use the Present Simple. The Present Continuous is more common with arrangements, however:

I’m meeting Sarah at the airport at 8 o’clock tomorrow morning.

They’re arriving at 3 o’clock this afternoon.

We’re starting the course on Monday morning.

The plane arrives at 10 o’clock tonight.

I’m meeting Sarah at the airport at 8 o’clock tomorrow morning.

They’re arriving at 3 o’clock this afternoon.
